Going Global
Where Keith tries to explain a Good Thing™
A customer recently sent me this note via our support system:
I've been using Mercury Mover for the last few months. I know that in the next version you are planning on to include window preset shortcuts. I just wanted to request that these shortcuts be able to be mapped directly to universal keyboard shortcuts, rather than requiring one to invoke Mercury Mover first. As i responded with why it's a Good Thing™ to have users bring up MercuryMover in order to invoke a shortcut my blog sense started tingling, so here's the skinny. My reasoning in requiring that you first bring up MercuryMover before invoking a shortcut is:
- not add a lot of global keyboard shortcuts (aka hot keys) to anyone's system.
- have simpler hot keys for MercuryMover's shortcuts
Having said all of this, i truly feel that i'm only partially in charge of the feature set for MercuryMover. The other party is of course MercuryMover's users. While i'm empowered to make these decisions by fiat, it behooves me to secure the advice and consent of the users.
So dear users, care to weigh in?
