Launch Update

Where Keith provides a very brief update

Brief late night/early morning update:

  • Launch went pretty smoothly
  • very decent coverage on the internets
  • still working on getting noticed by some more of the cool bloggers
  • one known pretty major bug (very uncool incompatibility with Spaces: MercuryMover is always bound to the space that it is in when it starts up)
  • one minor bug
  • one crash reported by one user (i have the stack trace and it looks like his copy got garbled in the download or installation [nib file won't load])
  • a fair amount of criticism
  • at least as much praise
  • one sale

I thought that the fix for the spaces bug was going to be easy; and it looks like it still will be. Unfortunately, the fix that i thought would work (and spent my evening working on) didn't so we're going to regroup (ie sleep) and try again tomorrow night with a different approach.

Still only one sale, but definitely a healthy amount of interest. If you're using the demo, and you buy now, you could singlehandedly double our sales!

Re: Launch Update

Care to venture a guess as to why you've only recorded one sale? Maybe it's because you're charging TWENTY DOLLARS for something that OS X already does!

Take a look at PhotoPresenter by Arizona Software. Amazing piece of software. EIGHT DOLLARS. Reality check time.

Re: Launch Update

Bryan makes a point here, and he does so with a fair amount of CAPITAL LETTERS. However, i'll have to respectfully disagree. TextEdit can be used to edit text, but Macromates still does a brisk business with TextMate, as does Bare Bones Software with BBEdit. Spotlight will open applications, but Objective Development still sells the excellent Launchbar (my favorite indy app of all time). The indy Mac developer community thrives in the gaps that Apple would never make a go of. MercuryMover (our full featured solution for moving and resizing windows via the keyboard) is designed to to fill that gap. Time will tell whether the users agree more with me, or more with BRYAN.

Re: Launch Update

I am a little confused at how this application does "something OS X already does".

Re: Launch Update

donjulio, thanks!

I own TextMate - yes, it is worth it. I would love to own MercuryMover because it is easier than VoiceOver Utility but not @ 20% the cost of Leopard ;)
